The Joe Henjum Senior Accolades honors those in our community that have gone above and beyond to help seniors in the Pikes Peak Region. Nominations are taken over the course of two months and then sent to a committee comprised of seniors and business professionals outside of the Senior Resource Council.

Were it not for the vision of this amazing gentleman, SRC would not exist. Joe started the organization in the late ‘80’s because he felt there needed to be partnership and camaraderie among the businesses that served seniors, particularly the retirement and assisted living facilities. Joe, with the help of a few others, invited everyone to Cheyenne Place for lunch, where he was the manager. It was so successful they decided to get together every month; before long, there was such a large crowd that the lunch would be held at various locations around town. It was from these lunches, that the SRC was born. Twenty plus years later, those who serve the senior community are still partnering and enjoying being with one another because of the vision and the commitment of Joe Henjum. SRC is just one of the many organizations in which Joe Henjum played an integral part. He, along with his wife, JoAnne, left an indelible footprint on the Colorado Springs community. It is with pleasure that SRC dedicates these awards to the memory of a wonderful, caring, and dedicated human being who was the epitome of servant leadership.
