Senior Housing in Colorado Springs

  • PDF

By 2020, 15% of the population living in the Colorado Springs area will be 65 years of age or older.

Fortunately, the Pikes Peak region is one that respects and honors its senior population. There are a wide variety of resources and a large network of qualified providers. The community has developed an extensive network specifically for this growing portion of our population, including a variety of housing options.

There are several choices to consider when thinking about senior housing.

Independent Housing
Appropriate for persons whom are socially and functionally independent all or most of the time. Includes apartments, condos, etc. There are primarily senior occupied communities.
Retirement Communities

Provide private apartment or townhome style living and may offer optional amenities and a variety of floor plan choices. Options might include prepared meals, socialization opportunities, housekeeping and security.
Assisted Living
Combine housing and general support services for individuals who may not be able to live alone, but do not need skilled nursing care. Most provide meals, laundry services, housekeeping, 24 hour staff availability, activities and medication administration by certified staff. There are other optional services such as transportation and bathing.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
Provide shelter with medical, nursing, psychosocial and rehabilitation services for persons requiring 24 hour nursing supervision or need extensive assistance with everyday tasks. They provide meals, laundry, housekeeping, planned activities, assistance with dressing, bathing, feeding, toileting and perhaps even wound care, ventilator care, intravenous therapies, etc.
